Ruff Ryders CEO Darrin "Dee" Dean(on top) and an associate were both arrested on drug and gun charges in New York on Thursday (May 31).
According to North Jersey.com, authorities initially stopped Dean and Brooklyn resident Jerry Gilbert, who was riding the vehicle, for a broken taillight. After smelling marijuana upon approaching the car, they conducted a search leading to the discovery of 1½ kilos of cocaine and a loaded .45 caliber handgun hidden in a customized floor compartment.
Both men were charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a handgun and possession of a handgun while conducting narcotics violations. They were released from the Bergen County Jail on bail of $342,500 on Friday morning (June 1).
Dean founded the Ruff Ryders label with his brother Joaquin and sister Chivon in 1998. Their label is credited with jumpstarting the careers of DMX, Eve and Swizz
Beatz, among others.
