An adult sex toy party on the city's southwest side turned violent Saturday night. Rochester police say 39-year-old Joanne Jones (pictured above) stabbed her 22-year-old daughter Lataseha Nobles. It happened late Saturday night on Columbia Avenue off South Plymouth Avenue. Police say Jones stabbed Nobles after finding out they had both been intimately involved with the same man. Nobles was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. Nobles is listed in satisfactory condition. Jones is charged with first degree assault.

The mother (Candace Cabbil) of four of former NBA star Latrell Sprewell’s children sued him for $200 million, alleging Sprewell broke their long-term relationship off and roughed her up last month in their home. She says Sprewell entered their home, chased her around and smacked her hand to prevent her from trying to use a cell phone to call police. Then he allegedly grabbed her and dragged her down a flight of stairs by her feet, causing her physical and emotional injury.

We are receiving reports that the majority of hot clubs have a "black quota," and they also employ black doormen to reject black patrons-avoiding racial discrimination lawsuits. This is also common in Europe where I observed two up and coming celebrities (a model and actress) be refused entry because the club had reached their "black quota," for the evening. If you are a black celebrity who appeals to an urban audience, you will probably be denied entry but if you have a mainstream appeal, you will be allowed to enter and you also have a better chance of gaining entry (overall) with a non-black doorman.

Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z is teaming with Coca-Cola to help re-launch the Cherry Coke brand.
According to Brandweek.com Coca-Cola is seeking an assist from Jay-Z and his apparel company Rocawear, for the February re-launch of Cherry Coke and diet soda Cherry Coke Zero. As part of the partnership, Hov will give input on every aspect of the launch, including the new cityscape design of the can, as well as commercials for the soda. Hov is also expected to co-produce and appear at the Feb. 7th launch of Cherry Coke during New York's Fashion week

BAD LUCK

The California Highway Patrol recommended Monday that actress-singer Brandy be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in a freeway crash that killed a woman motorist last month, a city attorney's spokesman told The Associated Press.
The office is currently reviewing the case and determining whether the evidence warrants the filing of a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter.
Prosecutors couldn't say when they would make a decision about whether to bring a case. If charged, Brandy wouldn't necessarily have to appear in court and could have her lawyer enter a plea.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in county jail and a $1,000 fine

While the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that New Orleans rapper Mystikal was "released"vlast week, fans of the rapper may be disappointed.

Sources close to Mystikal told AllHipHop.com that his "released" status is correct, but that it is related to a federal misdemeanor tax conviction last year.

A representative with Jive Records confirmed that Mystikal, born Michael L. Tyler, is still incarcerated and serving a six-year sentence at Louisiana state prison, Elayne Hunt Correctional Facility.

Mystikal is serving the time after pleading guilty to extortion and sexual battery charges.

The charges stem from an incident in which the 36-year-old rapper forced a woman to perform oral sex on camera, after he caught her writing $80,000 in bogus checks.

Yesterday (Jan. 25), a representative with the FBP confirmed with AllHipHop.com that Mystikal was "released," because he served one year of a different sentence concurrently, after he was convicted in Jan. of 2006 for two misdemeanor tax violations.

He was sentenced to the additional year for failing to report almost $2 million in earnings from 1998-1999.

Jive Records released Mystikal's best selling album to date, 2000's Let's Get Ready.

The album spawned the No. 1 singles "Danger" and "Shake Ya Ass."

Mystikal remains a hot commodity. As news of his alleged release started to spread last week, radio stations in the South began reporting the news.

Representatives for the rapper said they have been bombarded with phone calls for show and interview requests.

His current production rate is $250,000 per cut. The late great Luther Vandross made so much money off producing and publishing his songs, in the late 1980's he purchased a home in Los Angeles for $10 million dollars in "cash." Currently, Mariah Carey makes more than any other female artist in songwriting/publishing. This is why she rarely tours, she doesn't have to. Whitney Houston was mismanaged because her advisors should have encouraged her to enroll in songwriting classes. If Houston would have written or co-wrote any of her hits, her two homes would not have been foreclosed on. Songwriter Dianne Warren (Toni Braxton, Celine Dion, etc.) was once employed at a songwriting/publishing firm. The agreement, she would receive a straight salary and the company would gain complete ownership of her royalties. After Warren left the firm, she made $1 million dollars, her first year in business. Now, her song catalogue (1,200 songs) generates upwards to $20 million per year. Aretha Franklin wrote or co-wrote several of her hits, this money still keeps her afloat financially. If you write a hit record and publish the rights, you get paid each time that song is played on any radio station in the world. Keep in mind, their are millions of radio stations worldwide, the money adds up. You also get paid when another artist records your song. If your hit record becomes a "standard/classic," and is played on Oldies & Goodies stations, from generation to generation, you will be financially secure throughout your life span. Gregory Abbott (Shake You Down) was a one hit wonder but that song generates $1-$2 million per year in royalties because it's a classic. Rick James generated upwards to $90,000 per month in publishing/songwriting royalties, this is why he never went broke despite his drug habit. He was one of the few Motown artists who retained his royalties.
